Ashes of Al'ar

Ashes of Al'ar

The mount Ashes of Al'ar is a rare drop from the raid boss Kael'thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep. (The drop rate is 2.0%.) Tempest Keep is located in Netherstorm, Outland. This raid is reasonably easy to solo by any level 90-100 class and there is no option to choose 10/25 player normal/heroic as it is just 25 player normal. It is not necessary to kill the other bosses, however they have a chance to drop rare pets. Getting the mount also rewards the feat of strength [Ashes of Al'ar]

Green Proto-Drake

Green Proto-Drake

The green Proto-Drake is a low drop chance from [Mysterious Egg] which is bought from Geen, the Oracles quartermaster in Scholozar Basin, Northrend. To purchase the egg you are required to be revered with the Oracles faction, this will not take long and is done through doing daily quests for them. However be aware that if you quested in this area when levelling that you may have chosen to go with the Frenzyheart Tribe instead of the Oracles - if you did not level in this area then there will be a short quest line to complete. [The Part-time Hunter] is the first quest in the chain.

Cenarion War Hippogryph

Cenarion War Hippogryph

This hippogryph mount can be obtained through being exalted with the Cenarion Expedition. You can either complete dailies for this faction or run through appropriate dungeons. Personally I would recommend the dungeons in Coilfang Reservoir if you choose to do it this way which is located in Zangarmarsh, Outland.

Grove Warden

Grove Warden

This mount can currently be obtained through killing Archimonde in Hellfire Citadel on heroic mode or higher. He will drop a quest item that will direct you to Moonglade and then you will be rewarded this mount. It can be challenging to find a group for this if you do not raid and the item level requirement is around 700+ and people often look for experience such as Ahead of The Curve: The Black Gate or Time is a Flat Circle. However you could always pay gold to a guild for a boost if you have the gold or slowly build up your item level and hope to find a group not looking for previous experience.

Argent Tournament

The Argent Tournament has a variety of different mounts to earn and can be a fairly long grind. To obtain them you will need to complete quests for the Argent Tournament which is located North East in Icecrown. You will eventually begin to earn Champion's Seals from completing dailies which is what you will need to purchase the mounts. Some will require you to be exalted with a specific faction (race factions) or Sunreavers (horde) depending on which mount it is.

Here are two that I have collected:

Sunreaver Dragonhawk
Requires Sunreavers - Exalted
Costs 100 Champion's Seals

Argent Hippogryph
Costs 150 Champion's Seals

The Headless Horseman's Mount

The Headless Horseman's Mount

This mount is a 0.5% drop from Loot-Filled Pumpkin which is obtainable from doing the special event dungeon during Hallow's End which is accessible through the dungeon finder. You can only get the Loot-Filled pumpkin once per day per character, so if you have alts then you may get it more than once a day for a higher chance at getting it.

Red Drake

The red drake can be obtained through exalted reputation with Wyrmrest Accord. You can either buy a tabard from them and run through Cataclysm dungeons or you could purchase reputation badges with the new currency from timewalking dungeons. The commendation badges for the Wyrmrest Accord may only be purchased from the timewalking dungeon vendor in Dalaran.

Emerald Drake

The emerald drake is an achievement reward. The achievement can be found in your achievement log under collections > mounts. The achievement is called [Awake the Drakes] and to complete it you need to collect the following drake mounts: The Blue Drake, The Azure Drake, The Purple Netherwing Drake, The Black Drake, The Bronze Drake, The Onyxian Drake, The Twilight Drake, Red Drake and The Blazing Drake.

Netherwing Drakes

The netherwing drakes can be obtained only through exalted reputation with Netherwing. There are daily quests available for this in Shadowmoon Valley (Outland). The rep grind could take quite some time, but there is a way to speed it up. There are netherwing eggs located all around the area in which the daily quests are, gathermate2 is a great addon to have in order to know the location of these. There are about 6 different colour netherwing drakes and the purple one goes towards the achievement [Awake the Drakes].

Soaring Skyterror

This is the mount that you receive after completion of the Draenor Pathfinder achievement, this achievement will lead to you being able to fly in Draenor in an upcoming patch.

The achievement is fairly straightforward and can be found in your achievement log under Exploration > Draenor. This achievement is also account-wide but progress will vary per character in some of the achievements.

Voidtalon of the Dark Star

This is about one of the rarest new mounts to obtain, but certainly one of the coolest. Having just camped for it myself I can say the competition is pretty high.. Now where do I begin?

The Voidtalon of the Dark Star can only be obtained through clicking on portals known as Edge of Reality, below is the portal I found in Frostfire Ridge.

Now these portals are pretty rare spawns, they spawn once per realm every 14+ hours roughly and can spawn at multiple points all over Draenor. I camped in Frostfire Ridge because there are three spawn points in really close proximity, I was also lucky enough to find the portal on my own server. If you do happen to be using cross realm assist and find a portal, the mount will be mailed to you if you click the portal.
However, if you find the portal on your own realm and click it - you will be queued for scenarios. A window will then pop up allowing you to enter and you enter the Edge of Reality.

Here you will find a dead Voidtalon and an egg, the egg can be clicked on and this is where you loot your mount.

While definitely one of the harder to get mounts, it is definitely worth it and there is one thing that makes it slightly easier. So on reset day, if you are able to stay awake that long - the portals have a definite spawn on each realm...but again only one will spawn throughout Draenor on your server so realm hopping could be an option. Also, if these portals are not clicked they can despawn within three minutes minimum...but no worries, they will respawn somewhere else not long after! You have to be pretty lucky to get it, and you can find maps of confirmed spawn points on a few websites.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Mottled Meadowstomper

The Mottled Meadowstomper is a 100% drop from a rare spawn named Luk'hok. This rare has multiple spawn points in Nagrand, Draenor and has an unconfirmed spawn timer. It is best to be in a raid if you decide to camp this, that way you have eyes at all of the spawn points.

Reins of the Onyxian Drake

Onyxian Drake

The Onyxian Drake is a rare drop from the instance Onyxia's Lair. There is only one boss - Onyxia. It is easily soloable for any level 90-100 and the drop chance is 1.4%. It can be run once per week per character. Onyxia's Lair is found in Dustwallow Marsh, there isn't really a short way to get there and flying is definitely required.

Black War Bear

Black War Bear

The Black War Bear is obtained from an achievement, For the Horde or For the Alliance. This achievement requires you to slay all the leaders of the opposing faction. So essentially you are raiding the opposing faction's cities, therefore you will most definitely need a raid group (also keeping in mind that you can't see players from other realms in Orgrimmar and Stormwind so you'll need the majority of the raid to be on your server or on servers merged with your own). The leaders have a lot of health and will take a fair amount of time to get down, and some of them hit kinda hard.

Amani Battle Bear

Amani Battle Bear
This is definitely one of the easiest drop mounts obtainable, it drops from Kasha's Bag in the dungeon Zul'Aman in the Ghostlands. It only requires you to set free prisoners in the dungeon and is a 100% drop from the bag and the dungeon is very easily soloable.

The Swift White Hawkstrider

The Swift White Hawkstrider

This mount is a rare drop from Kael'thas in the dungeon Magister's Terrace which is located on the Isle of Quel'Danas. The Isle of Quel'Danas is easily accessible by a portal in Shattarath, Outland. The drop chance of this mount is about 4% and can only be done once per day per character on heroic. Now what's so special about this specific hawkstrider is not only the recolour but also the fact that it's really the only hawkstrider useable by the Alliance.

Guild Representative Mounts

The Golden King (Alliance)

The Kor'kron Annihilator (Horde)

Both of these mounts require you to be exalted with your guild and can be purchased from either Ogrimmar or Stormwind from guild vendors. If you want to become exalted with your guild fast, you can purchase a guild tabard and run dungeons while levelling and wearing it.

The Azure Drake and Blue Drake

The Azure Drake

The Blue Drake

Both of these drake mounts drop from The Eye of Eternity which is a raid located in the Borean Tundra. There is only one boss in this raid and he is soloable. The drop rates of both of these drakes is 4%-5% depending on whether you do 10/25 man.

The Blazing Drake

The Blazing Drake

The Blazing Drake is another mount that drops from the Dragon Soul raid, except this one drops from Madness of Deathwing and is contained in Elementium Fragment. The drop chance of this mount also varies between the raid difficulty and whether its 10/25 man, the drop chance ranges from 0.6% - 4%.
Another mount can also have a chance to drop from this boss but only on heroic, that mount is the Life-Binder's Handmaiden and is a recolour of the Blazing Drake.

Experiment 12-B

Experiment 12-B

Experiment 12-B is a drake mount that drops from Ultraxion in the raid Dragon Soul which is located in the Caverns of Time which can be easily accessed by a portal in the Violet Hold in Dalaran. The drop chance varies on normal/heroic 10/25 man, but it starts at 0.5% and the max drop chance being 1.2%. It is easily soloable both normal and heroic by most classes, though there's a phase right before this boss that is much more suited for ranged classes. After killing Ultraxion, a Lesser Cache of the Aspects will appear and this is where you will find your loot and possible mount.
